Our Directors

After 30 years directing the band, D. Lynn Zeller retired at the end of the 2015 concert season.  The band thanks Mr. Zeller for his many years of dedicated service.  Since that time, the band has been under the co-direction of Dr. Brent Weber and Mr. Jay Moon.
 
Dr. Weber is a native of Roseburg, Oregon.  He graduated from Southern Oregon University and later went on to earn his Masters degree and DMA in Saxophone Performance at the University of Georgia.  He has studied saxophone with Kenneth Fischer, Eugene Rousseau, Joseph Wylko and Connie Frigo.
 
As a concert saxophonist, Dr. Weber has been active performing around the United States, China, Slovenia, Thailand and France.  He spent two years teaching at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chendu, China and while there freelanced in Southwest China.
 
Dr. Weber is currently Assistant Professor of Saxophone at FSU where he maintains the saxophone and bassoon studios, coordinates the Jazz Studies Program and directs the Jazz Orchestra.
 
Jay Moon recently retired from teaching Orchestra in the Mountain Ridge School District in Allegany County Public Schools, Maryland.  He also directed bands at Westmar, Allegany, and Elkins High Schools.
 
Jay has a Bachelor of Music Cum Laude Degree from WVU where he performed with the Marching, Concert, and Jazz Bands.  He also performed on college tours with the Wind and Jazz Ensembles along with guest artists William Revelli, Roger Pemberton, and Rich Matteson.  He currently plays trumpet locally with the band and also the Potomac State College Jazz Ensemble.  Jay also plays String Bass for the Allegany County Community Symphony Orchestra.
 
Jay has played trumpet since the 4th grade.  He grew up in LaVale, and currently resides in Frostburg, Maryland.  He enjoys spending time with his family of six children, and six grandchildren.
 
Moon and Weber work together with the band's board of directors to coordinate schedules and repertoire for the annual summer concert season.
 
The band thanks Jay and Brent for all they do to help continue the traditions of Cumberland's historic community concert band.
